Match Group and its Tinder, Hinge and The League brands have partnered with the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), part of India's Ministry of Home Affairs, on a romance scam awareness campaign, the company announced in New Delhi on October 21. The launch coincided with the second edition of the Trust and Safety Festival in India.

The campaign runs in-app tips on all three apps covering five warning signs: a new match quickly moving the conversation off-platform or avoiding video calls and meetings; meeting without verifying identity first; unsolicited crypto or investment advice; requests for money, gift cards or investments from someone met only online; and scams that build over weeks or months before a request for money. Users are directed to report cybercrime at cybercrime.gov.in or through the 1930 helpline.

The release lists Tinder's existing safety tools, including Face Check and Photo Verification. It says some new Hinge users in India join through a waitlist after creating a profile, and that Hinge offers Face Check, a block list at onboarding and screenshot protection there.

"Romance scams are constantly evolving, and meaningful progress depends on global collaboration," said Yoel Roth, Match Group's senior vice president and head of trust and safety. I4C director Nishant Kumar said scammers "create false identities on Dating apps/ matrimonial websites to exploit emotions."

Why it matters: A partnership with a national cybercrime agency gives a platform's safety messaging official weight and a clearer path to law enforcement, at little cost. Operators in markets with active government cyber units should look for similar arrangements, especially as warning requirements like the new U.S. federal law spread. It also shows Match treating trust tools as part of its growth plan in India, where Hinge is expanding.
