Grindr has completed its acquisition of PurposeMed, the parent company of Freddie, a telehealth provider of PrEP and HIV prevention care in the U.S. and Canada, the company said on November 2. Grindr announced the deal on September 30.

The purchase price is $250 million, made up of $190 million in cash and $60 million in Grindr common stock, plus up to $70 million in additional cash tied to 2027 performance targets and payable in 2028. Grindr gets the Freddie brand and its partnerships with affiliated clinical networks.

Eligible users in the U.S. and Canada can already connect with Freddie through the Health center in the Grindr app. Grindr said it plans a more integrated experience over time for learning about, accessing and managing HIV prevention care. The company says it has nearly 16 million average monthly active users.

"We are very excited to welcome the Freddie team to Grindr," CEO George Arison said, adding that the deal brings "a profitable business, an experienced team, and clinical and pharmacy capabilities."

Grindr reports third-quarter results on November 5, its first report since agreeing to the deal.

Why it matters: Grindr is now a dating company with a regulated healthcare business inside it. That brings revenue that does not depend on subscriptions, along with clinical, pharmacy and health privacy obligations most dating operators never face. For LGBTQ+ and niche operators, it is the clearest example yet of monetizing a community's real needs beyond matching. Watch Thursday's results for how Grindr will report Freddie and what it expects health to contribute in 2027.
